We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and hardworking professional with a desire to work in a successful, thriving school making a positive contribution to our pastoral team as a learning mentor.

Our learning mentors work in close collaboration with the Head of Year for their cohort of boys and with staff, parents and outside agencies in order to provide support, guidance and interventions that impact on student well-being, personal, social and emotional welfare and improve student behaviour, attendance and punctuality. You will also deliver intervention programmes with a small groups of selected students.

Wheelers Lane is an established and successful school, where 72% of our students achieved grade 4 including English and Maths. 52% of students achieved grade 5 including English and Maths.

The successful candidate will:

  • have a proven track record of developing a variety of programmes to raise the attendance, achievement and self-esteem of students and of successful whole school interventions working with individuals and groups across all key stages
  • be passionate about improving outcomes for all our students
  • have knowledge of how to motivate and engage young people
  • have knowledge of how to resolve conflict and manage challenging behaviour
  • you should be committed to working with students from a wide range of backgrounds to remove barriers to learning
  • follow school safeguarding procedures and policies
  • be part of the pastoral duty team
  • have excellent interpersonal skills that you will use to inspire, challenge and motivate students
  • believe that every student can and will succeed
  • excellent organisational skills
  • be flexible in your approach to work, adapting to new challenges
  • support the ethos and vision of the school
